The High Cost of HYPE

Talk show hosts are taking shots at television ads in Missouri and Wisconsin featuring actor Michael J. Fox, who has Parkinson's disease. Rush Limbaugh says he believes the actor is exaggerating his symptoms in the ads, while others say he is using misleading information about human, embryonic stem-cell research to promote political candidates.

Right to Life organizations say that while they deeply sympathize with Mr. Fox, they don’t respect the hype and false hope he conveys about the controversial research. They point to a recent study from the University of Rochester Medical Center, where embryonic stem cells were injected into rats with Parkinson's disease. The results did produce improvement in the Parkinson's symptoms but also caused deadly tumors in the rodents' brains.

KTLW agrees with those who want to prioritize adult stem cell research, which does not kill human life and is already proven to be valuable in treating real people with real medical conditions. That’s what real hope is all about.

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” Psalm 96:2,3 NIV
